Quins Unichem Pharmacy in Gore is involved in an exciting Asthma Study, which is undoubtedly a "first of it's kind" in this region. It involves the Pharmacist working closely with the asthma patient and other health professionals to ensure that the maximum benefit is obtained from the medicines being used.

In the Gore area over 80 patients will be helped by this process, which is called Comprehensive Pharmaceutical Care

Bernie McKone has completed his Masters degree in Pharmacy Practice. His thesis was on the topic of "Smoking Cessation" and dealt with the issues that the pharmacist can assist with in helping patients stop smoking. This is important - being smoke free is a significant part of Asthma Management. because cigarette smoke can trigger asthma attacks.

Some Asthma is worsened by Hayfever and Allergies, especially when the nose becomes inflamed. In some instances, it is good practice to minimize the effect of Hayfever by using nasal sprays that reduce the inflammation inside the nose. One of the nasal sprays that is very useful is Beconase Nasal Spray.

Now available from Quins Pharmacy is a free "Breathing Flow Test". This test measures how fast you can blow air out to see if you have a narrowing in your breathing tubes. We will compare your results with the average for your age, height and sex, and advise the next step for you to take.
